Laser Vision Correction
Laser vision correction complete care. All procedures are custom “bladeless” using the latest in laser technology. Your procedure will be done in Tulsa but all other care from complete preoperative analysis to final post-op visit will he handled in our office! Dr. Hart received his initial laser training in Windsor, Ontario by Dr. Jeffrey Machat, the pioneer in modern laser refractive surgery. He is confident enough in Lasik surgery that he underwent the procedure himself in 1999. We also offer financing through Care Credit.
LASIK, or “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis,” is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery to treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism.
Like other types of refractive surgery, the LASIK procedure reshapes the cornea to enable light entering the eye to be properly focused onto the retina for clearer vision.
In most cases, laser eye surgery is pain-free and completed within 15 minutes for both eyes. The results — improved vision without eyeglasses or contact lenses — can usually be seen in as little as 24 hours.
If you’re not a good LASIK candidate, a number of other vision correction surgeries are available, such as PRK and LASEK laser eye surgery and phakic IOL surgery. Your eye doctor will determine if one of these procedures is suitable for your condition and, if so, which technique is best.
Optomap Retinal Exam
An Optomap Retinal Exam provides:
- A scan to confirm a healthy eye or detect the presence of disease.
- An overview or map of the retina, giving your eye doctor a more detailed view than he can achieve by other means. The opportunity for you to view and discuss the Optomap images of your eye with your doctor at the time of your exam.
- A permanent record for your medical file, enabling your optometrist to make important comparisons if potential problems show themselves at a future examination.
OCT for Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a problem with the central part of the retina known as the macula. The macula controls our ability to see fine detail and allows us to preform activities such as reading, recognizing faces, and even drive a vehicle. AMD causes deterioration of the macular area and causes blurred central vision and can progress to the point where the central vision is completely lost. The Cirrus HD-OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) used in our office can take high definition cross sectional scans of the macular area. The OCT has become a fundamental tool in the early diagnosis and management of macular degeneration as well as other retinal conditions.
OCT Glaucoma Testing
Glaucoma is an irreversible eye disease which causes damage to the optic nerve, normally due to high pressure inside the eye. It is painless and can cause damage to the eye without causing noticeable visual symptoms. The disease happens gradually and affects the peripheral vision first, but can lead to total blindness if not detected and treated early. The Cirrus HD-OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) used in our office is the top of the line instrument used to detect and monitor glaucoma. This instrument tracks changes that occur to the optic nerve and the retinal nerve fiber layer, and allows Dr. Hart to detect glaucoma early that we can often start treatment before vision loss occurs.
Zeiss Matrix Visual Fields
A visual field test is an eye examination that can detect dysfunction in central and peripheral vision which may be caused by various medical conditions such as glaucoma, stroke, brain tumours or other neurological deficits. Visual field testing can be performed clinically by keeping the subject’s gaze fixed while presenting objects at various places within their visual field. Simple manual equipment can be used such as in the tangent screen test or the Amsler grid. When dedicated machinery is used it is called a perimeter.
